On the first day of school— first grade— I wanted to remember what Evan looked like on the day he entered primary school. He was shy, nervous, and scared to go. I tried to comfort him by telling him all his friends would be in the class. I sat him down on the front steps of our home- and photographed this image. He was ready for school. When I picked him up in the afternoon- he was happy and confident, and full of life. The first day of school was a success. He was never this reluctant to move forward again.
